About

Sumatra PDF is a small, free and open-source document reader for Windows created by Krzysztof Kowalczyk. Besides PDF it opens EPUB and MOBI e-books, FictionBook, XPS, DjVu, CHM help files and CBZ/CBR comic archives, as well as common image formats. It concentrates on quick start-up and distraction-free reading rather than editing, with a minimal interface, tabs, extensive keyboard shortcuts and a command palette for finding functions. A portable version runs as a single executable without installation or registry changes, which suits USB drives and locked-down PCs. Simple PDF annotations are supported, but it is not meant for changing page content. The project states that it carries no ads, bundled software or subscriptions, and it offers 64-bit, 32-bit and ARM64 builds for Windows 7 to 11.

  • Reads PDF, EPUB, MOBI, FB2, XPS, DjVu, CHM and CBZ/CBR
  • Portable single-file version with no installation
  • Tabs, keyboard shortcuts and a command palette
  • Basic PDF annotations

Before you download

  • Windows only; Windows XP and Vista users need the older 3.1.2 release (the ARM64 build needs Windows 10 or 11).
  • A reader rather than an editor: it does not modify PDF page content.
