About
LibreOffice is a free, open-source office suite from The Document Foundation, developed by volunteers and companies. It contains six applications: Writer for documents, Calc for spreadsheets, Impress for presentations, Draw for diagrams and graphics, Math for formulas and Base for databases. OpenDocument is the native format, and it also opens and saves Microsoft Office files such as DOCX, XLSX and PPTX, although complex layouts and macros may not carry over perfectly. Documents can be exported directly to PDF, and the suite supports extensions, templates and automation with Basic or Python macros. The Document Foundation states that it does not include generative AI features and works without a network connection. The download page usually offers two branches: the newest release and an older, more conservative one.
