About
WebTorrent Desktop is a small, open-source torrent app from the WebTorrent project, made for streaming: add a magnet link and a film or an album starts playing while it downloads. What sets it apart is that it is a hybrid peer. It talks to ordinary BitTorrent clients over the classic network and, at the same time, to web browsers over WebRTC — so anything it downloads or seeds can be fetched by browser-based clients such as Nuxtre's. One copy running anywhere is enough to make a classic swarm reachable from browsers. It is deliberately simple: no adverts, no accounts, few settings. Development has slowed, and the latest release is several years old, but it still does its one job well.
- Streams video and audio while they download
- Connects to classic BitTorrent peers and to browsers (WebRTC) at once
- Opens magnet links and .torrent files
- Casts to Chromecast, AirPlay and DLNA devices
- No ads, no account, open source (MIT)
Before you download
- Development has slowed: the latest release, 0.24.0, is several years old.
- Your IP address is visible to the peers you connect to, on both networks, as with any torrent client.
