About

Krita is a free, open-source painting application developed by the Krita Foundation within the KDE community, aimed at illustrators, concept artists, comic creators and texture painters. It provides many brush engines with stroke stabilisers, a pop-up palette, a wrap-around mode for seamless textures, layer and filter masks, vector and text tools, and frame-by-frame animation with a timeline and onion skinning. Colour management covers depths up to 32-bit floating point, and G'MIC filters and Python scripting extend it further. Since March 2026 two release lines ship together with the same features: 5.3, built on Qt 5, and 6.0, built on Qt 6 with stronger Wayland support on Linux. Downloads from krita.org are free, while paid copies in several app stores help fund development.
