About
GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a free, open-source raster graphics editor developed by a community of contributors. It covers photo retouching, image composition, digital painting and general graphic production, with layers, masks, channels, paths and a broad set of selection and transform tools. The GIMP 3 series introduced non-destructive filters, and version 3.2 added link layers that update when the source image is edited elsewhere, editable vector layers and an overwrite paint mode suited to pixel art. It opens and exports many formats, including Photoshop PSD, and can be extended with plug-ins and Python or Script-Fu scripts. People moving from commercial editors may need time to adjust to its interface, but documentation and tutorials are plentiful. There are no ads, accounts or paid tiers.
