About
Plex Media Server turns a computer you leave on into a small streaming service for the files you already own. Point it at your folders of films, series and music; it identifies each item, fetches posters and descriptions, and keeps everything in tidy libraries. Any Plex app — on a smart TV, a streaming stick, a phone or a browser — can then play from it, converting formats on the fly when a device can't handle the original file. Watching on your own network is free. A Plex account is required, and the apps also promote Plex's own free ad-supported channels and an optional paid Plex Pass for extras such as hardware-accelerated conversion and offline downloads.
- Organises films, TV and music with artwork and episode lists
- Streams to TVs, phones, consoles and browsers
- Converts video on the fly for devices that need it
- Remote access to your library away from home
- Per-user libraries and parental restrictions
Before you download
- Needs a free Plex account to set up and to sign in on your players.
- The apps also promote Plex's own ad-supported channels; you can hide them in settings.
- Some extras (hardware-accelerated transcoding, downloads, mobile features) need the paid Plex Pass.
