About
Kodi is a full-screen media centre designed to be used from the sofa with a remote: it plays local files and network shares, shows your collection with artwork, and can be extended with add-ons. Where Plex and Jellyfin are servers that stream to other screens, Kodi is the player itself — the thing you run on the PC or box plugged into the TV. It can also act as a front end for a Plex or Jellyfin server. The official add-on repository holds legitimate add-ons; the third-party 'builds' and add-ons that promise free films and TV are not affiliated with Kodi and are where most of its bad reputation, and its malware, come from.
- Remote-friendly full-screen interface
- Plays nearly every audio and video format
- Libraries with artwork and metadata
- Skins and an official add-on repository
- Runs on PCs, Android boxes and Raspberry Pi
Before you download
- Third-party add-ons and 'builds' that stream copyrighted films are not part of Kodi and often carry malware; stick to the official repository.
