About
Notepad++ is a free text and source-code editor for Windows, created by Don Ho and built on the Scintilla editing component. It starts quickly, uses little memory and opens files in tabs, which makes it a common replacement for the basic Windows Notepad. Programmers use it for syntax highlighting and code folding across dozens of languages, while others rely on it for editing configuration files, logs and plain notes. Search and replace supports regular expressions and can run across whole folders. Macros can record repetitive edits, and the built-in Plugins Admin installs community add-ons such as file comparison tools. The editor can also keep unsaved work between sessions. It is open source and released under the GPL.

- From June to early December 2025 attackers hijacked update traffic for a small number of targeted users; releases since 8.8.9 verify the installer's certificate and signature, so install the latest version from the official site.
