Node.js
JavaScript runtime for servers, tools and command-line apps, with npm included

About
Node.js runs JavaScript outside the web browser. Built on Google's V8 engine, it uses an event-driven, non-blocking model that suits web servers, APIs, real-time services and command-line tools. Installing it also provides npm, the package manager for the very large npm registry, which is why many front-end build tools and frameworks ask for Node.js even when the finished site runs in a browser. The project, hosted by the OpenJS Foundation, publishes Long-Term Support (LTS) versions intended for stability alongside a faster-moving Current line. Official downloads include a Windows installer, a macOS package, Linux binaries and source code. The runtime ships with modules for files, networking, HTTP and streams, plus a built-in test runner.
- V8-based JavaScript runtime outside the browser
- npm package manager included
- LTS and Current release lines
- Built-in modules for files, HTTP, streams and testing
- Installers for Windows and macOS, binaries for Linux
Before you download
- The Windows installer offers an optional step that installs Chocolatey, Python and Visual Studio Build Tools (about 7 GB) for compiling native add-ons; skip it unless you need them.
