About
Waterfox began in 2011 as a 64-bit build of Firefox for Windows, at a time when Mozilla only shipped 32-bit versions, and has since grown into an independent browser built on Firefox's Gecko engine. It is now developed by BrowserWorks. Waterfox removes telemetry and data collection, turns on a built-in ad and tracker blocker by default, and sends DNS lookups through an Oblivious HTTP relay so that no single party sees both who asked and what was asked. Private tabs can be opened next to normal tabs in the same window, and their data is cleared when the last one closes. The interface can switch between several styles, including looks from older Firefox versions, with options for tree-style or vertical tabs and a classic status bar. It is aimed at people who like Firefox but want fewer data-sharing defaults.
