About
Brave is a browser from Brave Software, the company co-founded by former Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich. It is built on Chromium, so pages render as they do in Chrome and most Chrome Web Store extensions install normally, but Google-specific services are removed and a feature called Shields blocks ads, trackers and many fingerprinting techniques without any setup. Private windows can optionally send traffic through the Tor network. Its own Brave Search engine is the default in many regions, and Leo, an AI assistant, is built in. It also ships optional extras that some people use and others ignore: Brave Rewards, which shows privacy-preserving ads in exchange for BAT crypto tokens, a built-in crypto wallet, and a paid VPN. Brave appeals to people who want strong blocking without installing and tuning extensions themselves.
