About
Chrome is Google's web browser and the most widely used browser on both desktop and mobile. It is built on the open-source Chromium project, but the Chrome build itself is proprietary freeware that adds Google services such as account sync, automatic updates and built-in page translation. Signing in with a Google account carries bookmarks, saved passwords, history and open tabs between computers and phones. The Chrome Web Store offers a very large catalogue of extensions, and Safe Browsing warns about dangerous sites and downloads. Recent versions also add Gemini AI features, some of which are limited to certain countries or paid Google plans. Chrome suits people who want broad website compatibility and already use Google services; anyone who prefers to share less data with Google may want to compare it with other Chromium-based browsers.
