About
Signal Desktop is the computer companion to the Signal messaging app, which is run by the non-profit Signal Foundation. Every message, voice call and video call is end-to-end encrypted with the Signal Protocol, the same protocol several other messengers have adopted, and the service is designed to keep as little data about its users as possible. The desktop app is linked to a phone running Signal by scanning a QR code, and then sends and receives messages on its own, including group chats, group video calls, disappearing messages, reactions and file attachments. Signal carries no ads and is funded by donations, and its client code is published under the AGPL. It suits anyone who wants private conversations and can persuade their contacts to use Signal too.
