About
The DirectX End-User Runtime is a Microsoft package that installs optional libraries from the legacy DirectX SDK, which many older PC games expect to find. If a game will not start and reports a missing file such as d3dx9_35.dll, Microsoft points to this runtime as the fix. It adds the D3DX helper libraries for Direct3D 9, 10 and 11, XAudio 2.7, XInput 1.3, XACT and Managed DirectX 1.1, installed side by side with the components Windows already provides. It does not replace or upgrade DirectX itself: Windows 10 and 11 include DirectX 12, which is updated through Windows Update. The small web installer fetches the components during setup, and Microsoft also offers the same runtime as a larger offline redistributable package.
