About

Proton VPN comes from Proton AG, the Swiss company behind Proton Mail. Its apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS are open source and have been independently audited, and the service runs under a no-logs policy that outside auditors have also reviewed. Unusually for a free VPN, the free plan has no data cap, shows no ads and does not limit speed, though it is restricted to one device and a smaller set of server locations and does not include P2P or streaming support. The paid Plus plan unlocks servers in more than 140 countries, Secure Core routing through privacy-friendly countries, the NetShield ad and malware blocker, and up to 10 devices at once. Both plans include a kill switch and the Stealth protocol for networks that block VPNs.

  • Free plan with no data cap and no ads
  • Open-source, independently audited apps
  • Kill switch and Stealth protocol on every plan
  • Secure Core multi-hop servers (paid)
  • NetShield ad and malware blocking (paid)
