The Plot
The Plot is a member's own stretch of the village: a hut by a waterfall, a stream with a water wheel, fruit trees, two ovens, an incubator, a splicer, a shrine, and caves and doors that open on rooms of their own. The World shows it whole. It is where a member's roshi live, and where the Vetti in their care makes a home.
The hand
The member is the hand: the pointer, drawn in the world. It pats (a click), scolds (the other click), carries a roshi or a thing and sets it down, drops a biscuit, asks what? and why?. Only the hand makes food from nothing. Whatever the hand lets go of over a doorway — a door, a cave's mouth — goes through it.
The Vetti at home
The Vetti lives at home, behind the big hut's door, and walks the Plot on their own: fetching food and water for the hungry, sleeping at home by night, carrying a roshi through a doorway. They keep the standing orders — words said in the box under the world (feed them; don't let them breed; pat the scared ones; go and find a seed) turned into rules they follow. Selected, the Vetti can be inhabited and walked like a game. What a child may do grows with them: an infant is held; a young child plays, feeds and waters; a child carries and is trusted with the tin; an adolescent helps with the breeding and may keep a stall; an adult runs the whole Plot.
What is in it
Fruit trees drop fruit that rots if nobody eats it; bugs from four nests eat the rot; coconut shells serve as bowls until they crack; the stream is good to drink anywhere and turns the wheel; the ovens make a cake or a cookie for a push; the incubator hatches seeds twice as fast, and safely; the splicer makes one seed of two; a shrine takes a daily offering. Thirteen rooms lie behind the caves and the doors — some to be explored like the rest, some (the huts, the tree house, the watchtower, the temple, the gate house) rooms that feed, water, warm and bed whoever goes in. A little shrine by the west landing stays shut until a certain day.
The fog
Only what the Vetti has walked into is shown; the rest of the Plot is dark until they go there, and the hand cannot reach into the dark.
The first egg
No roshi are kept on a Plot until the Vetti is a child; the first comes with a story.
SPOILER — it says more than the rooms allow. Open it if you're sure.
The day the Vetti becomes a child they are gone from home — the bed made, the coat off its peg — and found at the little shrine by the west landing, the building that was always shut, with an egg they found. Oriel at the Wards' House says that if they keep it, they must help care for it; kept, it is laid in the straw by the incubator, most of the way hatched.
Life and death
Six roshi and four seeds at most. A roshi lives about nine Plot-days; the Plot lives at two ticks a second while someone watches and at a tenth of that while nobody does. Four minutes after a death, Anubis comes for it; the grave keeps the name, and on the Lantern Moon a lantern can go on the water for it.
