A prog — a toy from 1999 with a crack box, written by the Basement Krew, whose keys give a member powers in the rooms for a while (an alias, a ghost, a scroller, a punt, a flood…). Rumour puts it in a folder off the 404 page; the README.NFO says where its keys hide, in riddles. Three keys from three hiding places crack it.
Keys can be shared (five uses each), and are: Pip drops them, the regulars leak them, and Rex burns every one he sees — see Rex's ladder. Giving directions in the open gets them confiscated; talk around it, or fold it:

The folder is reached by typing, not clicking, at the bottom of a page that isn't there. The README's riddles point at an old address of the prog itself, at the people who wrote it (search for them), at the quietest resident (ask in private), and at an hour of the night in a certain room. Which strings, exactly, is still yours to find — and the hiding places move each season.
