About

Rufus is a compact Windows utility for turning an ISO or disk image into a bootable USB flash drive, commonly used to install Windows or Linux, run live systems, or start firmware and recovery tools. It detects the image type and suggests suitable settings, while letting experienced users pick the partition scheme (MBR or GPT), target system (BIOS or UEFI) and file system. When writing Windows 11 installation media it offers optional tweaks, such as skipping the TPM, Secure Boot and RAM checks or the requirement for an online Microsoft account. It can also download official Windows ISO images, check drives for bad blocks and create Windows To Go drives. It runs as a single small executable without installation, and a portable build keeps its settings in a file.

  • Bootable USB drives from ISO and disk images
  • MBR/GPT and BIOS/UEFI options
  • Optional Windows 11 setup tweaks (TPM, Secure Boot, online account)
  • Downloads official Windows ISO images
  • No-install executable plus portable build

Before you download

  • Windows only; requires Windows 8 or later.
  • Writing an image erases everything on the selected USB drive.
