Recuva is a Windows file-recovery tool from the CCleaner team. It searches hard drives, memory cards, USB sticks and other rewritable media for files that were deleted but whose data has not yet been overwritten. A wizard asks what type of file you lost and where it was stored, then lists what it can find with a color-coded rating of each file's condition and a preview where possible. A deep-scan mode digs further, and Recuva can also try to rescue files from damaged or newly formatted drives. For the opposite job, a secure-overwrite option erases files so they cannot be recovered. The chance of success drops the more a drive is used after the deletion.
