About
Malwarebytes is an anti-malware program widely used to find and remove infections that are already on a computer. The free version for Windows and macOS works as an on-demand scanner: you start a scan, review the results, and quarantine or delete the malware, adware and potentially unwanted programs it finds. Malwarebytes Premium, which can be tried free for 14 days, adds real-time protection that stops threats before they run, along with ransomware, exploit and malicious-website blocking. When no subscription is active, the desktop app falls back to the manual scanner, which stays free to use. The company also publishes mobile security apps for Android and iOS.
- On-demand scanning and removal of existing malware
- Detects adware and potentially unwanted programs
- Quarantine for detected items
- Premium adds real-time, ransomware and exploit protection
Before you download
- The free version only scans and cleans when you start a scan yourself; real-time protection requires Premium.
- A 14-day Premium trial is offered; afterwards the app reverts to the free manual scanner.
