About
Bitwarden Authenticator is a standalone phone app for Android and iPhone that produces the time-based codes many websites ask for as a second step after your password. It comes from the makers of the Bitwarden password manager, but you don't need a Bitwarden account to use it, and it costs nothing. You add an account by scanning the QR code a website shows when you switch on two-step login; the app then displays a fresh code, by default every 30 seconds. The codes are kept on the phone rather than on Bitwarden's servers, and the app can be locked with your phone's biometric unlock. If you also use Bitwarden Password Manager, the two apps can optionally share codes. The source code is published on GitHub under the GPL.
- Time-based one-time codes (TOTP) for two-step login
- Adds accounts by scanning a website's QR code
- No Bitwarden account required
- Biometric lock for the app
- Optional code sharing with Bitwarden Password Manager
Before you download
- Phone only: needs Android 9 or later, or iOS 15 or later.
- Codes stay on the device; when you change phones, export them from the old one and import them on the new one, or rely on your phone's cloud backup.
- If you use it for your Bitwarden account's own two-step login, keep that code in this app only rather than syncing it into the vault it protects.
