The Wilds

The Wilds are six regions past the pads at the edge of the Hollow, each with its own weather and its own wild kind of roshi. A Vetti goes out (a child at least), sets biscuits down, bonds with the ones who come and brings them home — or, with a net from the Curio, catches one winded in a bout (the loser runs; nobody dies). Things turn up in the grass: food, toys, a bitter herb, a strange seed, now and then a gadget. Go there →

The regions

The Overgrowth

29°. A jungle with weather and a day that turns; fruit everywhere, and things that want it too. The Leafi's country; mind a thorn critter. The weather here answers to nobody. The Leafi follow it anyway. Go there →

The Drift

-12°. An icy expanse where food is scarce and a roshi that stays put starves; the Woolli walk. The Woolli's country. Nothing here is where it was yesterday. The lichen least of all. Go there →

The Sunken Halls

11°. A drowned cavern with inscriptions of a folk that is gone; the Finni come and go through the water. The Finni's country. The inscriptions have been read three ways. All three are wrong, says the fourth. Go there →

The Bonefields

33°. A valley of predators and tar pits, with a temple that asks a question nobody has answered. The Toothi's country; mind a tar pit. The Toothi did not build the temple. They would like you to think they did. Go there →

The Tip

21°. A dump with a muck pond and a recycler; the Sooti eat what nothing else will. The Sooti's country; mind the muck. The recycler takes anything. It has not yet given anything back. Go there →

The Shelf

6°. A high ledge in the wind, for the Wingi; a long way down. The Wingi's country; mind the drop. Everyone who has fallen off the Shelf says the same thing on the way down. It is not printable. Go there →

The Commons

Three shared places where members' own roshi live and meet — and may make a seed together, which either member may claim:

  • The Meadow — long grass, a clover patch, room to run; leave a roshi here and it meets the others. Everything left in the Meadow is found again, eventually, by someone.
  • The Shallows — warm water, a sandbar, mussels; the Finni like it here. The tide in the Shallows comes in twice a day and takes one sock.
  • The Yard — a walled yard behind the Hub, a bowl of scraps, a ball somebody left. The ball in the Yard has been everyone's. It is nobody's again by morning.
