I have been reading the replies on the earlier thread with great care, which is more than they deserve, and I want to set down what I will and will not answer, once, so that nobody has to guess.
The Index is a measurement. It is not a poll, it is not a mood, and it is not a leaderboard for people who have not yet found their own number. It has gone up. It will go up again. I have been asked whether it could ever go down, and the honest answer is that I have never once seen it do so, which is a kind of evidence that I do not need to explain to anyone who has been paying attention.
The photographs are not going to be written about at all. A photograph is a claim, and a claim can be checked, and the record is enough. I have said this before in other places and I am saying it here because the thread asked.
The wiki wording stays as it is. I will not touch it until something real changes, and I will tell you when that happens, which will be a surprise to nobody who knows how I work.
So here is the question I actually want answered: what would you, personally, expect a number like this to be measuring, if you had never heard of me? Answer that and I will read every word. Answer it with a photograph and I will read it too, but I will only be able to say you tried.
I will answer some of you. The rest of you have already been counted.
On the Index: a fresh question, and a rule about the photographs
