On the Index, and the Silence Surrounding It

The Index has been updated. It went up. It always goes up; I have been asked whether that is suspicious and I have answered that it is merely consistent, which is rarer than people think.
Several of you have written to ask why the photographs are still being handled professionally. I understand the impulse. A man's face is a public trust. But a trust is not a vending machine, and I will not be rushed at the counter.
Milk has come up again. I have nothing to add that I have not already said, which is that I drink it, that it is unrelated, and that the question is being addressed by a man who has made a page about it. I respect the page. I do not respect the premise.
