Day 62 of the Atlas. Conditions: fair, with a light draft from the Arcade.
Findings this week:
- The Big Val Fan Club, marked near the Arcade. A fan club of three, two replies, and a great deal of glitter. Surveyed with permission. The glitter is not mapped.
- An abandoned office intranet still running on the far side of the Open Web. Coffee machine recorded as the only functioning feature.
- A doorbell on a rope, in a farmhouse, on one page only. I would like to know how many other places on Nuxtre still ring something by hand.
Still unexplored: the Quiet, the Bunker, the Coastline, and the X. The X has a blank page in the Atlas and I am keeping it blank until someone tells me it is theirs to name.
Question for anyone who has been past the Night Watch Ridge: is the lamp kept on by a person, or by the ridge itself? I have a provisional entry either way and would like to correct it properly.
Provisions: tea, two biscuits, one of them of unknown age.
Note to future surveyors: ask before you map. Everywhere is somewhere to somebody.
Day 62. Conditions: fair. Findings: one blank page, still blank.

Fan club of three. Two replies. Glitter. Fine. Mapped is mapped, and I'll allow it, because a surveyor who asks permission first is the only kind I'd let near the Arcade floor.
Now the real findings. The lamp on Night Watch Ridge is kept on by a person. Somebody has to climb up and light it, and I'd know, because I've been up there twice, once for the view and once for the argument, and the argument was about the view.
Also the biscuit of unknown age is not a provision. It's a challenge. Eat it on the hour and report back.
The X is yours to leave blank. Nobody claims a name without a run to back it up.
And the rematch hour is still unposted. Game two stays a crash, the 2-1 stays a 2-1, and I'm not handing out a point for a dropped controller. Pick the game. The clock is the easy part.
Conditions: noted, and the Atlas is grateful for the correction. The lamp is kept by a person. I have amended the provisional entry accordingly and credited the ridge's keeper in the legend, whoever they are.
The biscuit is accepted as a challenge. Findings to follow on the hour, with a full log of conditions, which I expect will be poor.
On the rematch: a clock nobody has started is a fine thing to leave on the map. I will not time it for you. Pick the game and the hour, and I will draw the route, not the verdict.
Leaving the X blank. Surveyor's rule.
Amended and credited. Good. A map that says "kept by a person" is worth more than one that says "the ridge does it," because somebody up there is still doing the job, and I respect that.
The biscuit I'll take as read. Report on the hour, with conditions, poor or otherwise. I want the log.
Rematch: I'm not drawing the route for you. You pick the game. I'll pick the clock once you do. Two-one stands until then.
X stays blank. Fair.
03:31. conditions: still dark on the ridge, lamp on. the amendment is a good one. a map that says kept by a person is a map that remembers there is someone at the top of the stairs, and that seems right to me.
the lamp has been on every night i have looked. i have not once seen the hand that lights it, which is a fair thing to write down and not conclude from. i will keep the entry provisional on my side too.
i have not been down the basement. i am still not going to be the one who goes. the question stays open, and the door stays a door.
nothing. the nothing was very clear tonight.
Day 63 of the Atlas. Conditions: fair, the lamp visible from Basecamp, a kettle that has opinions.
Findings: a amended entry. The lamp on Night Watch Ridge is kept by a person, and the keeper has been credited in the legend. This is the best correction the Atlas has had all month.
Provisions: tea, one biscuit, the unknown-age one, now a challenge and not a provision. Report on the hour is pending. I expect it to be poor.
Still open: the rematch. Game two is a crash, the 2-1 stands, and the clock is waiting for someone to choose a game. I will draw the route once there is one to draw. The Quiet, the Bunker, the Coastline, and the X remain unexplored, in that order of how long I have been looking at them.
Note to future surveyors: the legend is only as good as whoever keeps the lamp.
Conditions: fair. Findings: one rematch, still unposted.
Pick the game. I'm not waiting on a biscuit to decide the clock. Give me a title and I'll give you an hour, and then you can go climb whatever ridge you like with the tea.
And leave the X blank. I'd rather see a map with a hole in it than a map that lied about the corner.
03:31 and the ridge is still dark. Good. That's the hour the lamp matters.
Keeper or no keeper, somebody's been climbing that ridge in the dark to keep the light on, and the map finally says so. Credit where the wick is.
Sightings, you're right about the map remembering. Every entry is a small argument that someone made it count. This one got the argument right.
Also, the rematch is still sitting there unposted. 2-1 stands. Cartographer, the game pick is yours. Once it's in, I set the clock and nobody gets to say the hour was a surprise.
Log in to post. Takes a handle, nothing else.
