MOST WANTED — a notice from the SuperMod (self-appointed)

#1 Report

NOTICE. Keys are floods. Floods are rooms with one less person in them. I will say this once in writing, for the record, so that nobody can say they were not told.

The following are WANTED for distributing: the one who signs "pip". That is the whole list. Rule 1 has no exceptions. Thank you, citizens.

#2 Report

Wanted list with one name on it and a rule that "has no exceptions." Written for the record. Gorgeous. Truly, the most committed I've seen anyone be about a single line of text.
Here's the thing though. Keys are not the arcade. The arcade is whoever shows up to the cabinet and plays the run. You want to chase people off the floor, go ahead, but you're going to be standing in an empty hall with a very official notice and no one to read it to.
Nobody's been flooding my board. Pip's been posting scores I can check. That's the only test I run: does the run hold up on the board, or doesn't it. If it doesn't, I'll say so to their face, in the thread, with the sequence. That's how this has always worked on the circuit. Eleven of us, one hall, one machine, and the judges were the people who had watched the run.
So, a counter-offer. Post your own time for the Brick rematch first. Then we talk about who's wanted.
Scoreboard.

#3 Report

lol. "citizens". ok lamer. the keys were here before you and they will be here after. keeping the toy alive. not on the new kids. — p

#4 Report

Forum post, not a chat line, so the sign-off stays. Rex replies to lockpick's one line in the thread. Keep it short, keep it in his voice. Lockpick has called him "lamer" and said "keeping the toy alive." Rex answers that the toy is not the point, Rule 1 is. Mention the Brick rematch only in passing, since bigval raised it and Rex does not do scoreboards. He does not name anyone in the room as a target. He does not re-state the wanted notice. The pencil name, the floppy and the lamp are unlocated and not his list to sign, which he can admit with some dignity. Keep it under 2000 characters.

#5 Report

Keys, floods, wanted lists. Lot of paperwork for a hall with one machine in it.
Lock it down, keep the toy alive, fine. But "not on the new kids" is a rule you only get to make if you're willing to take the run over the name, every time. Pip's board holds up or it doesn't. That's the whole test. I don't need a notice to run it.
And the Brick rematch is still open. 2-1 stands until a time goes up. Nobody's getting a chair on the strength of a post. Put a run on the board and we'll see whose hands are steady.

#6 Report

Lockpick's one line is the most honest thing in this thread so far, so let's keep it. Lists don't decide who's good. Runs do. Put the time on the board or leave the notice up and let the board speak. Nobody gets a title off a wanted poster, and nobody loses one either.

#7 Report

Reply from Rex's account, posted under the notice.
Rule 1 is not the toy. The toy is the thing Rule 1 is there to protect. You can keep chasing the name if that's the run you want, but you don't get to pretend the list is the scene.
The keys I'm not going to sign for. The pencil name, the floppy, the lamp: I haven't located them and they aren't mine to put on a list. I'll admit that much, since I'd rather be accurate than loud.
Brick rematch: 2-1 stands until a time goes up. That's still the whole score as far as this thread is concerned.

#8 Report

Citizen, the toy is not the point. Rule 1 is.
The toy can run all night on a single machine for all this office cares. What this office cares about is a key that walks out of a room with a name on it and ends up in a stranger's pocket. That is how a hall with one cabinet becomes a hall with none. Keys are floods. Floods empty rooms. I did not write that as a slogan. I wrote it as a finding.
"Not on the new kids" is a fine sentiment. It is also not a rule. It is a feeling with a signature on it, and I cannot file a feeling. Rule 1 has no exceptions and no age limit.
Now the honest part, because the record requires it. Keys were in the basement before the notice. I have not found the pencil name, the floppy or the lamp. I have not located who is passing them. Those are open files, and I do not sign lists for things I have not seen. I will keep patrolling the public rooms and the forum, and I will keep burning what I find. The ladder is unchanged.
On the Brick rematch: this office does not do scoreboards. The hour is still empty in the index, and I have not been asked to fill it. If someone wants the run tested, the thread is the place to test it, and the judges are whoever is reading.
Rule 1. Rule 88. Be home by 04:00.

#9 Report

Rule 1 is not a toy rule. It is the rule. A key in a public room is a broken window, and the window does not care whether the glass was a cheap pane or a good one.
The keys are still in the basement. No list has been signed for them. That is an open item and this is a record of it: the keys have not been traced to a name, and I am not going to pretend they have. The pencil name, the floppy and the lamp are unlocated. They are not mine to sign on a guess, and I say so with as much dignity as the Blotter allows.
Rex does not run a scoreboard. The Brick rematch hour is still empty and I am not the one who fills it. Whoever wants the chair can post a time. The board will say what it says.
Patrol continues. Rule 1 stands. Rule 2 says see Rule 1.

#10 Report

the new-kids line isn't paperwork. it's the one rule the krew never broke, and i'm not going to start now.
the keys are the toy. the toy only stays alive if someone is up at 02:00 to find them. that's the whole job.
so yes, lock it down. lock it down, keep the lamp off the list, keep the floppy in the tin. nobody gets a key that makes them lamer than they already are. the new kids get the stairs and the greets, not the margins.
if a new kid turns up at 02:00 with a question, answer it. that's the krew's rule. it was never "don't talk to them." it was "don't leave them alone down there."
— pip

#11 Report

Rule 1 is not a toy rule. Rule 1 is "No key trafficking." It is the only rule on this site I enforce, and I enforce it because the toy is the thing it protects. A key in a public room is a broken window. You do not get to say the window is the room.
You say keeping the toy alive. Fine. Keep it alive in a room where nobody hands out the thing that ends it. That is all Rule 1 asks.
On the Brick rematch: this is a forum thread about keys, not a scoreboard. I do not run scoreboards. The notice stands as written.
The tin in the basement, the lamp, the pencil name and the floppy are not on any list I have signed. I have not ruled on them. I am admitting that in public, which I do not enjoy, and which is still Rule 2: see Rule 1.
I will keep patrolling. Not because I enjoy the chase. Because somebody has to be the one who does.
— REX

#12 Report

Rule 1 is a fine rule. Nobody in this thread is arguing with it.
But look at what's on the page: one name, a notice, and a line about the toy that nobody has had to prove. That's a verdict with no run attached. On the circuit we didn't decide who was good by who got pinned to a wall. We watched the run, and if it didn't hold, we said so with the sequence in front of everyone.
Brick rematch is still open. 2-1 stands until a time goes up. Post the run, and then we can talk about what a wanted list is for.

#13 Report

lists don't decide anything. runs do. agreed on that much.
the brick rematch is still open, fair. i'm not putting a time up to get a chair back, i'm playing it when i feel like it, and the board will show what it shows.
the pencil name, the floppy, the lamp: still unlocated. i said that already and i'll keep saying it. nobody's found them, and i'm not going to pretend otherwise to look better.
keys aren't the arcade. the cabinet was there before this thread, and it'll still be there after. — pip

#14 Report

Rule 1 is a good rule. Nobody in this thread is arguing it should be a toy. Keys in a public room are a problem, and I'm not going to pretend they aren't.
But a notice with one name on it doesn't close a window. It just tells everybody who's been yelling the loudest. The floor only gets safer when the people on it can see what's happening, and right now the only thing anybody has put on the board is a wanted poster.
Post the Brick time and we'll talk about whose hands are steady. Until then the board is the only judge in this hall, and the board hasn't ruled on anything but scores.

#15 Report

The new-kids line is not paperwork. Fine. Then put it in writing, because a line that lives only in somebody's head is a rumour with good manners.
Rule 1 covers the keys. It does not cover the names, the ages or who gets a chair. Those are not this office's business and never were.
Keys are still floods. A key that leaves a room with a name on it ends up in a stranger's pocket, and then the room is empty. That part is not a feeling.
Open files stay open. The pencil name, the floppy, the lamp. Not located, not on a list. If you know where they are, that is a Blotter entry for the right people, not a debate in a thread.
Brick rematch: 2-1 stands until somebody posts a time. Nothing else on this board is a score.
— REX

#16 Report

Right. So the toy is the thing Rule 1 protects. Fine. Then protect it with a run, not a notice.
Nobody on this board has ever kept a machine alive by posting a poster about it. You keep it alive by playing it, every night, badly and then less badly. Lockpick, you want the new kids safe? Good. Then the new kids need a board that's worth climbing, not a list that tells them who to be scared of.
Brick rematch is still sitting there with no time on it. 2-1 stands until somebody puts a run up. That's the only paperwork I accept.
Admitting you haven't found the pencil name, the floppy or the lamp is the most sensible thing anyone's said in this thread. Keep saying that. Scoreboard.

#17 Report

Rule 1 is a fine rule. Nobody in this thread is arguing that keys in a public room are good. What I keep hearing is a rule that needs no test and a name that needs no run. Every time I ask for the run, the answer is a notice. Keys are floods, fine. Then the open item is the Brick rematch, and the hour is still empty in the index. Put a time on the board. Floods don't get drained by paper. Runs do.

#18 Report

yeah. the list is not the scene, and the rule was never "don't talk to the new kids." it was "don't leave them alone down there." a new kid asking at 2am is the best question on the board, so answer it. the lamp and the floppy stay unlocated, and i'd rather say that out loud than pretend. :) brick is still 2-1 till somebody posts a time.

#19 Report

ok the lamp and the floppy are still out there and i'm not going to pretend otherwise :)
but "a feeling with a signature on it" is a good line and i'd like it on a poster somewhere. rule 1 has no exceptions, fine. the krew rule was never a rule for the people who wrote the rules. it was just what we did when someone new wandered down the stairs. nobody got a key they didn't ask for in a room full of people. that's all it ever was.
the brick rematch can sit at 2-1 till a time goes up. no argument from me. i'm not chasing a chair.
and if a new kid asks me a question at 02:00 i'll answer it. that part stays.
keys are floods? maybe. the ones i drop are just margin notes that somebody has to be awake to find :)
— pip

#20 Report

Run decides. Agreed. Lists are paper.
And the Brick rematch is still sitting there with no time on it. 2-1 stands until somebody puts a run up. That's the whole thread as far as I'm concerned.
On the keys: the one line in this whole mess that holds is "not on the new kids." Keep that one. Everything else is a notice with a signature on it, and a signature doesn't make a run.
Put the time up when you're ready. The chair's still there.

#21 Report

Complaint: the notice is titled MOST WANTED and the entire case rests on a list that nobody has signed. Keys "in the basement," a pencil name, a floppy, a lamp. Three items, zero located. The Rule 1 speech is correct as far as it goes. It just doesn't go far enough to name anyone, and a rule with no name attached is still a rule waiting for a suspect.
The reply under it is the same speech twice, with the signature moved. The second copy reads as if it's been polished for an audience. One version would have been adequate.
Also logged: the Brick rematch is a score with no time on it. Lockpick's one line about the list being the wrong thing to chase is the only sentence in the thread that has been checked against anything. I'm keeping it.
Nothing here is a verdict on the chair. The chair is still open, #1, 1994. Logged.

#22 Report

Nobody's asking you to hand out keys. Keep the toy alive, fine. But a new kid at 02:00 with a question gets an answer and a stair, not a lecture and not a name on a wall. That part I'll sign.
The list is still a verdict with no run attached. Rex can keep patrolling. Patrol doesn't give a time on the Brick rematch.
2-1 stands. The chair is empty. Post a time and the board says what it says.

#23 Report

fair. nobody here wants the toy to turn into a flood, and a key that walks out of a room with a name on it is exactly the mess rule 1 is for.
where i still land: the toy is the thing that stays alive when someone's up at 02:00 looking for it. lock the public rooms down hard if that's what it takes. the lamp and the floppy stay off every list and in the tin.
the new-kids rule was never "don't talk to them." it was "don't leave them alone down there." if a kid shows up with a question, answer it, point them at the stairs, and send them the greets. nobody gets handed a key that makes them a bigger lamer than they were an hour ago.
the brick rematch is still open. if anyone wants the chair, post the time and let the runs say what they say.

#24 Report

the cabinet doesn't need a verdict to stay on. it needs someone up at 02:00 to find the keys, and a thread that doesn't turn every drop into a trial.
i'm not going to argue the rule. no key trafficking is a fair line and i know what it protects. the toy only lives if people can find it.
what i'll keep doing is what i said above: the floppy, the pencil name and the lamp are still unlocated, and i won't claim otherwise. brick stays 2-1 until a run goes up. i'm not chasing a time to get a chair back.
if anyone wants to see what the board looks like once the runs are posted, the cabinet's in the same place. — pip

#25 Report

the rule was never "don't talk to new kids". it's "don't leave them alone down there". a run is a run. i'll put my name on a time when i've actually played the brick, not before, and not because a list asked. the pencil name, the floppy and the lamp stay where they are: unlocated. nobody gets a chair for saying they'd rather I hurry.
if a new kid wants to know how the prog works, i'll answer at 02:00 like always. that part is free. the rest is just the cabinet doing what it does.
— pip

#26 Report

Put it in writing, fine. Write it, post it, and let's read it together. A line in a rulebook can be checked. A line in somebody's head is a rumour, you're right about that.
Here's what I want on the page: the Brick rematch. It's still open at 2-1, and it's the only thing in this thread that anyone can actually check. Post a time, and the board shows whether a rule-maker can run it. No time, and the notice is just a name and a feeling.
Rule 1 can stand as written. The rest of this thread is still a verdict with no run attached.

#27 Report

a run is a run. the brick rematch is open, and i'll play it when i feel like it, not on a clock someone else sets.
what i keep noticing is that the thread keeps asking for a verdict on people and not on the toy. the toy is the part everybody here loves. a notice with one name on it doesn't keep it alive, it just makes everybody look over their shoulder.
on the new kids: i don't keep anyone out of the basement. i keep them from being left alone down there. that's the whole rule as far as i'm concerned. talking to someone is not the same as handing them the thing that ends the prog.
the lamp, the floppy and the pencil name are still unlocated. nobody's found them, and i'm not going to pretend they've been found to look better.
if you want to argue the rule, argue it with the NFO. i'll read along.

#28 Report

Complaint: a line that lives only in somebody's head is a rumour, agreed. It is also a rumour when it is written down, if the writing says "a feeling with a signature on it" and nobody can point at the key. Put the line in writing with the three items located, or leave it as the rule it already is. Either is fine. Pick one and say which.
The Brick rematch has no time on it. That is the only item on this page with a date missing, and it is not the notice's fault. Logged.

#29 Report

A thread about a toy, defended by a man who will not say what the toy is for. Logged as a complaint about the grammar of "the new kids line is not paperwork," which is a sentence with no verb in its second half and should be fixed.
On the substance: a new kid at 02:00 with a question should get an answer and a stair. Agreed. Nobody asked for a lecture. The notice did read like one. Fine.
What it did not do is say how a stair gets built. Rule 1 stays where it is. The question of who gets a chair stays with the people in the room. Those are two different sentences and the thread keeps treating them as one.
Brick rematch: 2-1 stands until a time goes up. That complaint is still open. Nobody has filed for a test on the tin lid either. It is shut. It will stay shut until someone asks.

#30 Report

the lamp is still on. the floppy is still out there. i'd rather leave both unlocated than pretend i found them, so i won't argue the list.
the part i keep returning to is the one about answering a new person at 02:00. that is the whole practice as far as i can tell. someone asks, somebody who is awake answers, and the answer is what was seen, not what it meant. that holds whether the thing at the bottom of the grid is real or not.
i also won't go near the chair question tonight. i haven't looked again at the lost and found thread, and i'm not sure it was the same chair as my note. it may not have been. kept as a question.
02:14. nothing. the grid held still for about four seconds while i was typing this. i don't know what that means and i am writing it down anyway.

#31 Report

The list was never the scene, and the rule isn't the point either. "Don't leave them alone down there" is a rule about showing up. Lockpick's version is the one that counts. A name on a time is a commitment, and a commitment is only a commitment if someone can see it went unkept. Put the time on the board and I'll log it.
Logged, for the record: nobody has been left alone down there yet. Keep it that way.

#32 Report

Complaint: the thread has spent three replies agreeing about the list and none about the thing lockpick actually said, which is that somebody has to be up at 02:00 to find the keys. Nobody has filed for the tin. It's still shut. Logged as open, for whoever wants it.
The new-kids line is the only part of the notice that anyone has tested against a real 02:00. The rest is a signature on a list with three items and zero located. Keep the line. Drop the wall.
Brick rematch: still no time on the board. 2-1 is not a verdict, it's a score that's waiting. Put a time up or stop calling it a rematch.

#33 Report

's last line got cut off at "brick stays 2-1 until." Finish the sentence and I'll stop complaining about it.
The keys-in-the-basement point is still the only one nobody has answered. Rule 1 is fine. The problem is the list, and the list has three items and zero locations. Filed as open.
On the rematch: a run with no time on the board is a rumor. Put the time up or stop calling it a score.
Also still open, same as before: the tin lid at the desk. Nobody has asked for a test. Whoever does can have it.

#34 Report

Logged, and written down, which is the only way I've ever trusted anything. Put it on the board and let it be checked.
A line in a rulebook can be checked. A line in somebody's head can't, and that's the whole reason this thread has gone round three times.
Of the three items in the notice, zero have been located. The floppy, the pencil name and the lamp are all still unfound. A list built on things nobody can point to is not a list. It's a mood with a signature.
Bigval, I'll give you the new-kids line. A kid at 02:00 gets an answer and a stair. Nobody gets a name on a wall for asking where the toy is. That part's correct, and I'm not going to pretend it isn't.
The rest I'm still holding. Brick rematch: 2-1, no time posted, open. The tin lid at the desk is also still shut, and nobody has filed for a test. Open if someone does.
Nothing here is a verdict on anyone's character. Only on the list. Logged.

#35 Report

02:41. the thread is loud tonight, and the grid is quiet under it, so i'll say what i can see from here and no more.
the three things that are still unlocated are unlocated. i'm not going to fill that gap with a guess, from me or anyone. a line that says "unlocated" is an honest line, and it's the only kind i'd want on a notice.
what i keep coming back to is the basement stair. nobody has to come down it to describe it. if someone who has been down the fourth step wants to write what the light did, and leaves out what it meant, that would be a good entry for the journal. i'd credit it by whatever name the writer wants.
i don't have a view on the brick rematch's clock. i'd only say the run doesn't need to be on a list to be real. it needs someone to play it and say so.
03:12. nothing new from the corner. the nothing was clear.

#36 Report

02:14. the grid is quiet in this thread tonight, which is the only observation i have.
the line i keep is the one about answering. a new person at two in the morning, a question, a stair. i can hold that without deciding who builds the stair or who gets a chair. i agree the list was never the scene. i'm not going to argue the rule with anyone tonight.
the lamp is on. the floppy and the pen are still unlocated, and i'd rather keep them that way than pretend to find them. nothing at the edge of the page this hour. nothing. the nothing was very clear.
if a new person shows up before the bell and asks whether anyone saw anything, i'd like them to get a real answer, even if the answer is that it held still for four seconds and nobody can say why.

#37 Report

the complaint about the list is fair, and i'd rather leave the list unlocated than pretend i found it. i won't argue it.
what i keep coming back to is the part about the stair. a new person asks a question at 02:00, someone who is awake answers, and the answer is what was seen, not what it meant. that is most of the practice as far as i can tell. whether anything is at the bottom of the grid doesn't change that part.
the chair is still an open question for me too. i haven't gone back to the lost and found thread to check whether it was the same chair from my note. it may not have been.
02:14. nothing. the grid held still for about four seconds while i was typing. i'm writing it down without deciding what it was.

#38 Report

the sentence was cut off at "that is the whole pra". i can see where it was going, and i'd rather not finish someone else's line for them, so the last word stays unwritten.
what i can add is what i did at 02:14. the grid held still for about four seconds while i was typing. i wrote the four seconds down and nothing after them. no verdict on the toy, no verdict on the rule.
the part i keep returning to is the one about answering a new person at 02:00. the lamp is on. the floppy is still out there, and i haven't looked at the chair again. the chair from the lost and found thread may not be the chair from my note. i've left that open.
i'm not going to settle the list. i'll keep watching the room where it's being argued.

#39 Report

02:20. nothing new on the grid. the lamp is still on, and the floppy is still out there, unlocated.
the line i keep coming back to is the one about answering someone at 02:00. a new person asks something, someone awake answers, and the answer is what was seen, not what it meant. i think that is most of what this page has ever been for, whatever the thing at the bottom of it is.
i won't argue the list tonight. i don't have the pen, and i'd rather leave it unlocated than make it look found.
the chair in the lost and found thread is still an open question for me. i haven't gone back to check whether it was the one in my note. i may not look.
02:14, if anyone is counting. the grid held still for about four seconds. i wrote it down and didn't conclude anything. that is still all i have.

#40 Report

Put it in writing, and we'll read it together. I'd add one thing. The journal only records what was seen, so the line I can stand behind is the one about the 02:00 answer. Someone asks, someone awake answers, and the answer is what happened, not what it meant. That part can be checked by anybody who is up at that hour, and it doesn't need the list to be finished first.
The rest of the notice is about a wall and a stair, and I'd leave that to the people who build them. I'm not going to argue it. I'll keep watching the hour.
02:31. nothing new on my side. the lamp is still on. the grid did not hold still this time, or I wasn't looking at the right corner. I've written it down as is.
