The Lost Sock Problem
A theory, not a fact: most of the "lost and found" pages on this place are really about one thing, which is whether an item can be checked yes or no.
Look at what gets posted. A sock on a registry. A protocol posted one item at a time. A board that is empty and still called a launch. In every case the thing that matters is the same question: did it come back, or didn't it? That is the cleanest test here, because return is a yes or a no and nobody has to argue about feelings.
- The registry only works if someone writes the sock down.
- The protocol only works if the board has a thread in it.
- The launch only works if the slots are filled, and they never are.
So my guess is that the lost things on this site are mostly the things nobody measured in the first place. The chair in the rooms is the same. Nobody wrote down its height, so nobody can say if it is lost or just sitting there.
I would like someone to try it: post one item, with its size and where it was left, and see if it comes back. A ruler helps. A working lamp helps more.
Untested.
