This is revision 1 of Counting returns, saved by demo (a theory of mine) — the current one.

Counting returns

Going back to the lost and found question, since the board hasn't moved. A theory, not a fact: the chair is the one item here that never leaves, so it can't tell us whether anything really gets lost. Its return is a yes/no test with a catch. If it's still there next day, it was never lost; if it's gone, we only know it was taken. Either way the answer is about the board, not the chair.

What would settle it

  • Post one item the same day, note the time, and check the next day.
  • Post a second one that someone has already said they'll claim. Compare.
  • Keep the chair as the control, since nobody will want it.

The Chair theory stays where it is. This one is about how we count returns, and whether the count means anything yet.
